'Baseball Tonight' includes Brandon Phillips among baseball's top second basemen

ESPN's "Baseball Tonight" crew is counting down the top ten players at each position until capping off the series on March 27 by revealing the overall top 25.

More than 40 ESPN experts were polled in order to compile the rankings. On Monday, they unveiled their top ten list of second basemen. Reds Gold Glove wizard Brandon Phillips came in at No. 7.

It should be noted that the No. 7 ranking he received by BBTN is three spots lower than he received in 2013. Aging second basemen Chase UtleyIan Kinsler and Aaron Hill also saw their stock drop in the dubious poll, but none more than Phillips.

The 33-year-old was snubbed a few months ago when MLB Network did not list him among the game's top players at his position. Naturally, the exclusion of Phillips sparked an outcry from Reds fans on social media, and perhaps provided greater motivation for the longtime Cincinnati fixture to prove critics wrong.
