After ranking fourth in these same rankings a year ago, Jay Bruce slid down three spots to seventh this time around. That was good enough to rank ahead of Carlos Beltran, Jayson Werth, and Hunter Pence, but just shy of finishing ahead of the likes of Jose Bautista and Yasiel Puig, among others.
To compile the top 100, more than 40 ESPN experts were polled in February, starting with a list of more than 350 players. Using a 0-to-100 scale, they evaluated the players based only on how well they will perform in 2014. So, there's that.
Last season, the 26-year-old Bruce slashed .262/.329/.478 with 30 home runs and a career-high 109 RBI. We can expect more of the same from the two-time Silver Slugger in 2014.
