Saturday's gigantic mixed bag of Reds news and notes

First off, a big congratulations is in order for Todd Frazier and his wife Jacquelyn as the married couple welcomed their first child on Thursday. Here's a shot of the two preparing for delivery before Blake Brian Frazier was born shortly thereafter. The little guy weighed in at 10 pounds and 7 ounces.

One of the biggest news items from Saturday was the announcement of Skip Schumaker's injury. The scrappy veteran is expected to miss a month of action after dislocating his shoulder trying to make a diving play in Friday night's game.

On Friday, Mike Axisa of CBS Sports penned a 2014 team preview of the Reds. In a nutshell, Axisa believes the Reds can contend for a Wild Card berth, but says the possibility of a division crown is "unlikely." Axisa also opined that the Reds have "a very defined window of contention," adding that he wishes the club would have down more in the offseason to improve the roster.

Dayn Perry provided some 2014 over/unders for the Reds in this post. The most notable being 87.5 for the over and under on number of season wins. He also put the over/under on the number of stolen bases Billy Hamilton could notch at 77.5.

Building upon Cincinnati's preview capsule, Perry also wrote some likes and dislikes he has of the team. There's no real surprises here. Perry likes Joey Votto and dislikes the starting rotation depth, among others.

Speaking of Votto, here's audio of his interview with Lance McAlister from Friday. Is it just me or has Votto turned into a social butterfly all of the sudden?

Aroldis Chapman shared a post-surgery photo of his stapled head. It's not for the faint of heart so click on the link at your own discretion.

Could the Reds be in the market for a closer? With Jonathan Broxton and Sean Marshall still slowly working themselves back from injury, it's not a crazy thought to think Cincinnati might try and look for an outside option to close while Chapman rehabs. Jon Morosi of FOX Sports believes they just might.

Brett Marshall may be earning himself a spot on the Opening Day roster thanks to a solid spring. The injury to Chapman doesn't hurt his cause either.

Neftali Soto is listed as the emergency catcher despite not having appeared in a single game at the position this spring, writes C. Trent Rosecrans.

Charlie Wilmoth of published arguably the best Reds offseason recap I've seen. It's quite comprehensive and worth a read if you're wanting to get an in-depth overview of the winter.

The Cincy Biz Blog takes a look at Cincinnati's biggest contracts. The featured four include Votto, Homer Bailey, Jay Bruce and Brandon Phillips.

Only nine more days until Opening Day. I can hardly wait.
