Video: Matt Adams shoves fan after going for foul ball, fan gloats

The best defensive play from the Reds' perspective on Thursday didn't come from anyone on the field. It came from this red-hooded fan in the stands.

Watch as the fan takes away a chance for Cardinals first basemen Matt Adams to catch a foul ball. The fan succeeds in making the grab. Adams retaliated by giving the aforementioned fan a gentle shove with his glove. The fan then responded by wagging his glove at Adams and flipping him the bird.

Update: Adams claims the shove was simply an attempt to keep from falling into the stands.

" I was in line for it and then I hit the tarp," Adams told the Cincinnati Enquirer. "I heard it hit his glove and figured he caught it because I didn't feel it come into mine. I was just trying to stop from falling in there."

The video clip doesn't exactly corroborate Adams' story. What do you think? Should Adams face any disciplinary action from the league?

Yeah if that fan hit me on the head when I was diving for a ball I probably would have shoved him back from me too.

That fan and his little-girl friend are classless and punks just like their 2B Brandon Phillips! Act like you've been there before man! How embarrassing for Reds Nation...

Hey guys I'm a Cards fan, Have been for 54 years. Matt Adams is going to be a great player for the cards but he had no right to lay his hands or(glove) on that fan. I probably would have done at least what the fan did.
In some states what he did could be considered assault. His story was bogus he was just frustrated and struck out at a happy fan.
Don't tell me that if the same thing happened in StL. you wouldn't be on the fans side and calling the player an ass.

I didn't see the fan hit Adams on the head... at all. Like no way did anything close to that happen. Should the fan have flipped off Adams? No. But, focusing on that is really just showing your bias.

Also, a player should never put his hands on a fan. There has to be a suspension.

To the long time Cards fan... Thank you for being a voice of reason.
