The Oakland Athletics have snatched up southpaw Jeff Francis from the Reds. This is according to an initial tweet by Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.
On Friday, the 33-year-old was designated for assignment. This came one day after Francis pitched game two of a day-night doubleheader against the Padres. He allowed three earned runs over five innings in that start.
In eight starts with Triple-A Louisville, Francis compiled a 4-3 record, 3.33 ERA, and 3.75 K/BB ratio spanning 48.2 innings of work.
The Athletics are reportedly planning on using Francis out of the bullpen as a long reliever.
