If the National League Cy Young Award was bestowed after one month of the season, there is a good chance Johnny Cueto would be among the favorites to win it.
The fine folks at Eye on Baseball are well aware of this and that is why they tabbed Cueto as baseball's best pitcher through the month of April. Have a look for yourself and read what they had to say:
Let's put this way regarding Cueto (1.15 ERA in 47 innings): In his worst start of the year, he gave up two runs over seven innings pitched. This isn't anything new for Cueto, as he owns an ERA of 2.47 since 2011 (74 starts). When healthy, he's a front-line ace.
Cueto also leads all Major League Baseball pitchers in Wins Above Replacement with 2.4. The only real blemish on his resume at this point is his 2-2 record. As long as voters can look past the lack of wins, which he essentially cannot control, he should continue to be among the frontrunners for Cy Young talk.
