Reds pitching prospect slated to start minor league All-Star game

Reds pitching prospect Ben Lively has been pegged as the starting pitcher for the California League when it squares off against the Carolina League on June 17 in an All-Star Game.

Lively, Cincinnati's fourth round pick in the 2013 draft out of the University of Central Florida, has posted an impressive 9-1 record and 1.95 ERA in 12 starts for the Single-A Bakersfield Blaze this season. Lively has limited opposing batters to just 50 hits and 13 walks in 74 innings pitched. Furthermore, the Florida native owns 86 strikeouts and a K/BB ratio of 6.62.

Lively currently ranks as the 12th-best prospect in the Reds farm system according to MLB.com.

Also on the roster for the California League All-Stars are Blaze outfielder Kyle Waldrop and Jesse Winker. Winker is rated as the organization's third-best prospect.
