For a while, Homer Bailey flirted with a third career no-hitter on Sunday.
Those aspirations were dashed in the bottom of the seventh inning when the Giants collected a couple of base hits. But that didn't prevent Bailey from turning in a dominant overall outing.
All told, the right-hander improved his record to 8-4 by limiting San Francisco to three hits in a complete game shutout. He walked one and struckout seven while throwing 75 of his 107 pitches for strikes. Furthermore, he effectively lowered his earned run average from 4.80 to 4.39 during the game.
