MLB WEEK 12 – ERRORS, MUFFS, AND BLUNDERS

Last week I made a reference to me slowly becoming a Eugenio Suarez fan. Since that time Suarez has forgotten what side of a glove you catch a ball with, leading to three Reds losses, so I officially rescind my fan hood of Eugenio Suarez.

If the Mets Matt Harvey is the “Dark Knight” then Steven Matz is “Superman”.

Matz line for Sunday’s game – 7.2 innings pitched, 2 runs (earned), 5 hits, 3 walks, 6 strikeouts, along with 3 for 3 at the plate and 4 RBI, not a bad big league debut.

Rumor has it the New York Mets are petitioning Major League Baseball to play their remaining 2015 games at Citi Field. After Sunday’s win versus Cincinnati, the Mets are 29 – 11 at home this year. If you’re scoring at home, that’s a .725 win percentage.

MLB Week 11 - Open Forum

Pretty catchy title for this week, isn’t it?

Were you like me coming into work Monday morning all bleary eyed and tired from watching the conclusion of the U.S. Open? It was great theater.

Jason Day played two rounds of golf with vertigo, what’s your excuse?

Was it me or did the Chambers Bay course make the world’s best golfers look like mere mortals?

And now for something completely different…..

In his last fifteen games Todd Frazier is hitting .375 (24 – 64) with eight doubles, seven homers and 16 RBI. Frazier has hit four of the Reds last five dingers and five of their last seven. Yeah, he’s got my All Star vote.

MLB Week 10 - What''s Next?

Do you think these will help the injured Reds players heal quicker?

In reference to the television commercial, the above photo was taken on my wife’s iPhone 6.

Five players injured in one week, Brandon Phillips (mild groin pull), Zack Cozart (ligament damage in knee – out until next spring), Billy Hamilton (wrist), Tony Cingrani (shoulder), and now Jon Moscot (dislocated shoulder). At this rate, Cincinnati may look like the Billings, Montana rookie league team by August. Thankfully Phillips, and Hamilton are back in the lineup.

For what it’s worth, I’m recovering from a stomach virus that hit me on Sunday.

MLB Week 8 - Cynically Cynical

Editor’s note; this article is not politically correct, especially to Nationals fans.

Uh, what just happened this past weekend?

It just couldn’t be real, our Reds sweeping the vaunted, prate, gasconade, prima donna second coming of the 1927 New York Yankees (the second best team of all time behind the 1976 Reds), the diva Washington Nationals. Did that really happen?

I saw something this weekend I haven’t witnessed in a couple of years – SWAG! And, by golly, it was great fun to watch.

The offense had swag, the defense had swag, the starting pitching had swag, and the relievers, who at times this season made me miss Todd Coffey, pitched with swag.

Why there’s not a single player on our Reds roster who could even hold Bryce Harper’s jock, let alone think they could sweep such a baseball dynasty. Yeah, the 1990 Oakland A’s thought the same thing.
